Canterbury City FC Community Team
The community team exists to utilise the power of football for positive change in individuals and communities, and especially to help homeless and ex-homeless people from the Canterbury district to engage in a positive pastime that aids a move towards a healthy lifestyle.
We are a member of the Canterbury and District Football League and we see further benefits from this as it helps some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised people in our society take part in and mix with people from all walks of life on an equal footing.
We train once a week on Thursdays at Kingsmead Recreation Ground @ 4pm and also run an educational programme using football as a basis to discuss various topics including, health and fitness, drugs and alcohol, goal setting, CV writing, employment searches etc.
We have strong links with local homelessness Charity Porchlight and also Canterbury City Council and their Street Games Project. Nationally are squad members, who meet the criteria, also take part in trials for the England Homeless World Cup Team annually at various football league clubs. In 2009 one of our players successfully came through the trials culminating at Manchester Untied and represented England in Milan at the Homeless World Cup.
