A win but problems to face

- 15/10/2009

It was good to get a win under our belts last night at Ramsgate. We played a lot better than we had done recently. Everyone played well and it was a good result. Karl had another good game and Sam Baker looked good at centre back….he seemed to enjoy it, but it was yet another different player alongside me. I never seem to have the same defender next to me twice. I think that’s a problem all through the team…players not knowing who they are going to be playing with.

I know my form of late has not been very good but it doesn’t help to have the back line changed every week. I’m sure that it often goes down to injuries and players not being available. Dave must know what his basic eleven is but he doesn’t ever seem to get the chance to play it.

We dug in well against Bly but what I have to say is that very few of that team turned up for training this week, and that’s happening a lot. It’s the same old faces every time. It’s hard on the lads who do turn up. Training helps team spirit, which hasn’t been as good as it was last season.

I was very unhappy about being sent off against Bly. People said it was an off the ball incident, but I can’t see how it was off the ball when the ball got cleared towards me and I went in for a tackle with a Bly player. He was on the floor. I can understand why some people might have though it was a stamp but what actually happened was that he was on the floor and as I was trying to go back, to step out of the tangle with his feet, his foot was behind mine as I was trying to get away. I was falling backwards so I had to pull my foot away. There was intention to hurt the bloke. I asked the ref whether I had hurt him because my foot was not near his leg.

I've been reading some of the stuff about Wayne. He thought he had served his ban, so when he was told he could play, he played. He knew that he had to take his punishment and thought he had. It would be a shame if because of what’s happened he didn't carry on playing for the club. He’s done a lot for us and he still can.
