That will do Nicely!

I was delighted with yesterday's victory at Oakwood which maintains our 100% start to the season and keeps us at the top of the league. In all honesty, if we want to be seriously challenging for promotion next May we have to go to places like Oakwood and get results. It was a very big test for us and I thought we were professional and impressive throughout.

Despite their current position, I don't see many teams picking up three points at Oakwood so it was nice to get this fixture in before they hit some form. I felt we thoroughly deserved the the points and believe the winning margin could have been more if we had taken our chances in the first half. In the end we did show more quality in the last third and scored three outstanding goals in the last ten minutes.

The pick of the bunch was Calum McGeehan's 30-yard strike which was simply unstoppable and showed what great technique the lad has. One of the most pleasing aspects for me was the fact that we kept our first clean sheet of the season and looked very solid defensively throughout. We have stopped making the unforced errors that was costing us goals in our first three league games. Ian Hossick gets better with every game and Mike Seagar has proved to be very solid at left back. The key now is to keep the momentum going and avoid any complacency. I am constantly stressing to the players that you are only as good as your last game and that we have a long hard season ahead of us.

Being top in October is nice but counts for nothing. It is being top in May that matters. I actually believe we can and will get better as the season progresses. Players are gradually returning from injury and we will soon have tremendous competition for places in every position. Team spirit is very good and the effort from all the players in training is fantastic. The enthusiasm to maintain a high level of fitness is admirable and a key reason for our current run of good results. We can maintain a high tempo for 90 minutes and introduce such quality from the bench that teams cannot cope with the pressure we put them under. At the moment the games cannot come quick enough and I am looking forward to playing Otford FC at Bridge next weekend. They are an excellent footballing side and if last season's matches between us are anything to go by it will be a close encounter. There is a great deal of respect between each club and I look forward to seeing Denis and his players again. Given Otford's good start to the campaign it will be a real six pointer and a must win game. They know they have to get a result and will want to close the gap and put pressure on us. It all makes for an exciting game.
