Under 18s Hit Ramsgate For Nine (February 17, 2008) Canterbury City U-18 9 Ramsgate U-18 1
City's Under-18s continued their recent good form with a compehensive win over Ramsgate at the University of Kent.
City were well on top from the first whistle, with the midfield quartet spreading the ball well, but a number of early chances went begging before the visitors were fortunate not to concede a penalty following a disputed handball.
![]() City finally took the lead on the half hour; Daniel Mannings tapping home from Jack Winder`s cross. Increasingly dominating play, City then had a series of chances including a driving run from centre back Ben Small and an excellent drive from Calum McGeehan which was just inches too high.
Deservedly, City increased their lead on 40 minutes when Jamie Maxted drove home at the far post following a McGeehan corner.
Just before the break Aaron Campbell`s clever dummy allowed Troy Smisson to stride through and plant a shot under the Ramsgate keeper. In between only a fine tackle by Dean Brockman prevented Ramsgate a clear run on City`s goal.
City started the second half in fine form and scored three goals in the space of five minutes. The first came from Jack Winder who turned in Daniel
Manning`s cross. Minutes later Aaron Campbell scored his first of the day with a low drive before Kye Westgarth hit home City's sixth following some careless defending by the home side. With next week's Kent Cup clash in mind, City rang the changes and lost a bit of cohesion as a result. Ramsgate pulled a goal back from a corner before City finished the game off with a further three goals; one from Winder and two from the impressive Campbell giving him a well-deserved hat-trick.
