Girls' Round-up (February 17, 2008)

Mick Santer's weekend review:

Saturday. Away to Dover Rangers Colts.

Great to have Jasmine Reed back in goal after a long lay off through injury. It certainly lifted the girls and they are starting to realise their true potential by beating Dover 4-3. Zara Newman, Chloe Cooper and Molly Winder were all on target and an own goal made up the final score after a long throw from Zara caused panic in the opposition penalty area. The midfield and defence looked more composed and are starting to play the ball out instead off just kicking it up field. Kirsti Santer set up the second goal after running the ball out of defence and passing it down the line. A similar move down the left with Carla Baker this time led to the third.
A great team performance by all and a thoroughly deserved win.

Sunday. Home to Valley Park.

A hard fought game by the under 15's whose score (a 6-4 defeat) does not reflect the way the Girls played. Valley Park came as league leaders and were certainly given a shock when City went in front through an Eve Chappell tap in. Although Valley Park got back into the game via a good strike and a penalty, the girls did not give up. At 3-1 down Lauren Wiltshire crossed a ball in to the back post and after a challenge by Holly Castle the ball dropped to Emma Fagg who slotted it home. The second half was a lively affair with Valley Park scoring again but then City were given a penalty which was calmly put away by Holly Castle who is really starting to find her feet. Lauren Wiltshire also scored for City who eventually went down 6-4 but did not give up without a fight. The back four looked strong, ably led by Kelly Love and supported by Chelsea Rye, Megan Rook and Harley Hadley Lawrence. Man of the Match was given to Aishea Sims who once again was superb in goal and made some vital saves.
