Under-15s grab a result (March 02, 2008)

City Under-15s 1 Bearsted 0

City's Under-15s had their first experience of playing at the First team's home ground at Bridge and were not over impressed !  The pitch is in need of some tender loving care and made it difficult for the talented young players of both sides to perform an on-the-surface passing game that they clearly had in mind.

Bearsted had beaten City earlier in the season and come from a thriving club. They like to play a control and move game, as do City.  On a better surface the quality of play could have been up to the aspirations of both sets of players.

City tried hard to keep playing in the style that has often impressed. They worked to get an advantage through employing possession through triangles of players but were often frustrated. Nevertheless, their defenders were not often exposed and captain Scott Heard was always busy in midfield, inspiring and good at finding his strikers. Meanwhile, Samuel Todd and Sam Monks closed down Bearsted's central strikers with cool command.

It was Heard who won the game for City after 33 minutes when he found some space approaching the Bearsted penalty area and brightly raised his shot over the 'keeper and under the bar.

While City's performance was not the best of the season, to win while not being entirely satisfied with themselves was an achievement in itself.
