City Reserves ending on a high (April 07, 2008) Sharsted 1 Canterbury City Reserves 6
City travelled to Sharsted on Saturday to play their final away game of the season. They started well, with Dan Woodward breaking free on the left and collecting a fine pass from Jason Anthony and firing past their 'keeper on five minutes.
Things got even better when John Lewis held the ball up outside the 18-yard box and made a bit of space to fire his low drive into the bottom right hand corner. Sharsted came back with a well taken shot which rallied the side to play the long ball and keep City busy clearing their lines for most of the first half.
When City did break out, time and again the final ball let them down. After the break, Bob Vidler’s instructions to start the second half with pace was listened to and Woodward struck again to collect his second of the day. It was not long before City went further ahead, Sharsted helping them out by conceding an own goal after a goal mouth scramble. This killed off any chance of Sharsted coming back at City.
The whole team gave a good performance in the second period and it got even better when Tom Clark fired in a cracker. Clark made his goall by picking the ball up out on the wing and cutting inside to unleash his shot which the 'keeper had no chance of saving.
Some excellent passing football was played, with plenty of team support, and good morale saw City enjoy playing the way they did. One player who really enjoyed himself was Woodward who came from the First team and collected a hat-trick for his great performance. His third goal came late on which made the trip away to Sharsted end on a high.
With one more game to play at home against Minster, City could end the season on a high with taking 16 points from the last games.
