Outstanding performance by U-16s (April 13, 2008)

City Under-16s 8 Borden Village 0

City Under-16s crushed Borden on Sunday after a scintillating second half performance. A scrappy first half had seen City come in 2-0 ahead, thanks to goals from Glen Johnson and Marc Scudder but the scoreline didn't disguise what was otherwise a sloppy 45 minutes from City.

The second half was a different story. City scored four goals inside the first 10 minutes, playing some superb football to create chance after chance. They continued in this vein throughout much of the half and the final goal tally reached a deserved eight, with three further goals from Johnson, another from Scudder, a Chris Axford goal and a Michael Walsh penalty adding to the half-time scoreline.

With City's closet rivals, Dover, losing, it was a good day for the Under-16s. Steve Woolcott said: "I was disappointed with the way we played in the first half and asked the lads to up their game. They responded magnificently, showing real character, and tore Borden apart in the second half. Our football was a joy to watch and I hope that the lads can re-create this form for our final two games".

City (squad): Treacher; Searle, Norton, Egan, Gregory, Scudder, Richardson, Axford, Biggs, Walsh, Johnson, Woollcott.
