City Under-18s hold on to win (April 20, 2008)

Margate Under-18s 2 City Under-18s 3

City started slowly and conceded a goal on ten minutes when a long ball over the top split the City defence, leaving the Margate forward a simple shot home under 'keeper Mike Magrino.

City upped their play and equalised on 17 minutes with Mike Turner releasing twin brother James to tuck home the equaliser. City were lucky a few minutes later with Margate hitting a post before City put them under prolonged pressure but failed to convert clear chances.

City took the lead on 30 minutes when a long free-kick by Dean Brockman caused uncertainty between defender and 'keeper, with the defenders header leaving the keeper wrong footed and ending in the Margate net. City added a third goal before half-time through Troy Smisson who reacted first to shoot home a loose ball from a corner kick.

In the second half City again created the bulk of the chances but either the final ball or poor finishing meant they failed to extend their lead and this left them open on the counter attack with both saves by Mike Magrino and timely blocks preserving a two goal cushion.

Margate pulled a goal back in the eightieth minute to set up a tense final few minutes, although City also again spurned clear chances to seal the game but survived to post another three points.
