Reserves finish strongly (April 30, 2008) Canterbury City Reserves 3 Minster 1
City Reserves played their last game of the season at home on Saturday against Minster who they have seen the better of on two occasions already this season. They badly wanted to remain unbeaten over the last six games.
So this was a very good closing performance for the Development Squad and showed that there are players in the group who would hold their own in the First team.
City started the game badly with only a few chances coming their way and keeping Minster at bay to end the first half 0-0. It was Minster who took the lead through City’s defence failing to clear the ball, resulting in Minster scoring with a well-taken goal. This woke City up and with the team passing the ball around much better, Tom Clark scrambled the ball across the line from close range. It didn't take long for Clark to double his tally when he was awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge inside the box from Minster.
City were now leading 2-1 towards the closing of the game. Jason Anthony popped up and finally scored with a well-taken header, looping the ball over the top of Minster’s keeper.
City's Development Squad can be pleased with themselves for putting in good performances at the end of the season. As a result they will be all the stronger when they start again next season, with several of them really pushing for First team places.
