Good warm-up for Under-18s (May 07, 2008) City Under-18s 4 Chatham Town 2
City warmed up for next week`s Cup Final with a good home win over Chatham Town.
 City started well with Daniel Mannings lifting the ball over the keeper but also just over the crossbar in the first minute. Pressing forward, City took the lead on ten minutes when a corner by Calum McGeehan was cleared to the edge of the penalty area,which was collected by Mike Turner who wriggled his way past four players before tapping under the Chatham 'keeper. Chatham responded and equalised a couple of minutes later when a long ball saw City defender Rob Paton caught between two attackers, leaving a simple tap in past 'keeper Mike Magrino. City continued to attack and create but were grateful for a superb one handed tipover by Magrino before taking a 2-1 lead in the 37th minute with Jamie Maxted`s low finish.
City finished the half on the attack, with the Chatham 'keeper making a double save from McGeeham
 and Kye Westgarth`s follow-up. City took a two goal advantage on 55minutes with Turner`s ball down the left releasing Maxted whose first time cross was met at the near post area by Daniel Mannings firm header across the 'keeper to the far post. City continued to press but missed chances. They were also troubled at times by Chatham`s attack and Magrino made two superb saves before Chatham pulled a goal back in the 68th minute when the City defence had two attempts to clear their lines from a corner kick before a low cross back into the penalty area found an unmarked Chatham forward with a simple tap in on the edge of the six yard box.
City were unlucky not to get a penalty kick with referee adjudging the trip on
 James Turner to be just outside the box. City failed to take that opportunity but sewed the match up in the 80th minute when they were awarded another free-kick on the edge of the Chatham penalty area. While Chatham set their wall, McGeeham took the direct kick quickly low into the unguarded far corner to complete the scoring.
