Lord Mayor praises City

- 09/10/2009

Players, managers, coaches and officials of the club were privileged on Wednesday to attend a reception at the Tower House in Canterbury held by the Lord Mayor (Councillor Harry Cragg), Lady Mayoress (Mrs Sheila Cragg), together with the Sheriff of Canterbury, Councillor Gabrielle Davis.

The Lord Mayor, who over the past two seasons has watched several of the First team's matches at Bridge, said he had been impressed by the two promotions that the senior team had achieved and the successes of other City sides but also with the amount of work the club had been doing for "so many people in the community".

He praised the efforts that had been made to offer coaching and encouragement to a wide range of people, not least those with special needs. He also emphasised that the club was for working with "some of those people who are sometimes sidelined". He said he was thinking particularly of the homeless, who now had their own team within the club.

The Lord Mayor, who was presented with a City scarf and beanie, was thanked by City Chairman Phil Knight for what he described as a "memorable evening".
