Big win for Reserves. City Women out of Cup

- 14/11/2009

Larkfield & New Hythe 0 City Reserves 4

City's Reserves managed to adapt well to the testing conditions posed by gale force winds and, at times, driving rain to secure a comfortable victory at Larkfield.

With water starting to lie on the pitch and a real squawl sweeping across the ground that blew down four trees behind the stand before the game, there was a real doubt that the game would finish.

City lost the toss and Larkfield chose to play with the gale at that backs for the first period. However, City's ability to keep the ball on the ground and keep it moving gave their hosts a real headache that at times left them chasing shadows (figuratively of course as there was no sun all afternoon to cast shadows!).

City keeper Danny Wrench spent most of the first half retrieving the ball from behind his goal as wayward passes and off target shots rarely troubled him. In fairness, he was almost a spectator during the second forty five minutes as City absolutely dominated territorily. At the other end City looked threatening everytime they went forward and the 4-0 scoreline barely reflected their superiority.

City could afford the luxury of a missed penalty as goals from Beekharry, Wicks, MacVicar and Joe O turned a one goal half time advantage into a comfortable victory.
