City choose the Molten Acentec Vantaggio ball

Commented Phil Knight: “The club is pleased to confirm that Molten will supply the ACENTEC Vantaggio as their match ball for the coming season. I only hope our play can be as stylish as our match ball”

Bob Hope added: “I am delighted CanterburyCity FC has chosen the Molten ACENTEC Vantaggio as its official match ball. It is a great choice for the club as they relaunch what, I have no doubt, will be a highly successful club. What makes this FIFA Approved ball special is Molten’s unique ACENTEC manufacturing technology, which uses a special cross-fusion bonding technique. This makes for a rounder and smoother ball and the absence of hand-stitching means that the ball does not absorb water and, therefore, does not increase in weight in wet weather. It affords players far greater control than other balls and is probably the best football in the world. In fact, it is, arguably, better than the ball with which the clubs in the Premier Division currently play."

Launch meeting success
open evening 9 march

Almost two hundred people packed into the Westgate Hall on Friday March 9  for the launch of the  new Canterbury City Football Club.  Dozens paid £10 to become members and there were impressive messages of support from Sir Bobby Robson, Martin Peters and Michael Parkinson.
Club  chairman Phil Knight stressed that nobody should expect instant success but that a place in the Kent League was the aim, together with successful youth sides and, eventually, a home stadium. The club is commited to working with the community, also having a ladies' team and coaching for people with special needs as well as a charity partnership with the Pilgrims Hospices.
A spokesman for  Canterbury   City Council said they would work with the club and shared its ambition. First Team manager, Dave Fairclough, who warned that City should expect opponents to “raise their game when they play us” said: “After the meeting I was approached by several good standard players who said they would be keen to join, and we even had a physio wanting to help.  It was a great meeting but the hard work starts now”.

Messages

Sir Bobby Robson

“Grass roots football must be nurtured and saved. It is the future of the game in this country. I have nothing but admiration for all of you involved in this massive project and wish you well for the future. Canterbury is a beautiful city, with the cathedral and the vibrancy brought about by the university and the County Cricket ground.  It cries out for a successful football club from the juniors right to the very top. I shall be keeping an eye out for Canterbury City FC and expect to see them rapidly climbing the leagues to the position they deserve.  Best wishes and good luck for the future”.

Martin Peters

“Good luck to Canterbury City FC.  I remember, albeit in the distant past, of playing in Canterbury  for the England Youth team and also with West Ham in the Metropolitan League in 1959.  I always felt that the season I spent in the West Ham ‘A’ team gave me a great insight into handling oneself at that level and being positive for the future in the Reserves and the First team.  I often speak with my old team mates who played at that time, particular Brian Dear, and laugh at the experiences we had as youngsters.  We recognise the part played by playing at that level and we would never want to change that. They were great days. So, hoping Canterbury City FC achieve all they set out to do.  It’s a long haul but it’s worth the effort.  I hope you keep me in touch”.

Michael Parkinson

“Get behind this.  It’s important.
If you don’t now, no-one else
will.  Forget the Premier League.
This is the important task –
football, not to line people’s pockets
  but to change people’s

lives”.
